Instructions for Use Auto-Belays
5.0 TRAINING
It is the responsibility of all users of the Perfect Descent system to ensure that they understand and comply without exception with all of the following points and that they are:
- Properly fitted and secured with a climbing harness.
- Correctly attached to the Perfect Descent system carabiner with their climbing harness.
- Instructed in the correct ascent and descent techniques with the Perfect Descent system as described below.
- Instructed on what to do if the rope becomes slack or if an improper retraction speed is detected during climbing, as described below.
5.1 USER INSTRUCTIONS
Before climbing: All climbers must read and understand the instructions for the safe use of the Perfect Descent system. Climbers must ensure they are familiar with the rescue plan in case of problems during climbing. Climbing is a strenuous activity; if you suffer from any medical condition that may affect your ability to climb, consult a medical professional before participating.
Carabiner connection: Make sure the carabiner is correctly attached to the harness according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and that it is fully closed and locked before beginning to climb. Some models may have two carabiners; both must be attached to the same harness tie-in point.
FAILURE TO CONNECT PROPERLY MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Safety checks before climbing:

- Test the Perfect Descent system by pulling out some rope and allowing it to retract.
- Ensure that there is no visible damage or defect to the webbing. If there is, stop climbing immediately and inform a staff member.
- If the rope does not retract correctly, stop climbing immediately and request assistance.
- Make sure your harness is correctly fitted and secured.
- Verify that the carabiner of the Perfect Descent rope is attached to the designated tie-in point of the harness and that it is fully closed and locked.

- For single-carabiner models, the gate opening must face away from the climber.
- For dual-carabiner connections, attach both to the same tie-in point with opposite gate orientations.
- Rules during climbing and descending:
![]()
- Never climb near or above the Perfect Descent unit.
- Never begin a descent from a point higher than the system itself.
- Before descending, ensure the landing area is clear of people and obstacles.
- Always descend feet first to make contact with obstacles and prepare for landing.
- Do not release the rope before beginning the descent.
6.0 USAGE RESTRICTIONS
- Individual use: The Perfect Descent system is designed for use by one person at a time. User weight must be between 11.5 kg and 140 kg. Persons with muscular, skeletal, or physical disabilities must consult a physician before use.
- Environmental conditions: Any system showing signs of wear or with insufficient retraction force must not be used under any circumstances and must be reported to staff immediately so it can be removed from service and tagged as “Unusable” until inspected by C3 Manufacturing.
7.0 HARNESSES
Harness standards: All harnesses used with the Perfect Descent system must comply with one of the following standards:
- EN 361 – Fall protection
- UIAA 105 – Climbing harness
- EN 12277 – Type A (full body harness)
- EN 12277 – Type B (small full body harness)
- EN 12277 – Type C (sit harness)
- The user agrees to use a harness that complies with these standards.
8.0 SUPERVISION DURING USE
- Training and supervision: Users have read and understood the Perfect Descent rules in section 5.0. Before climbing, the user has verified that:
- The climber’s harness is properly fitted and secured.
- The Perfect Descent carabiner is firmly attached to the harness and fully locked.
![]()
![]()
- Users know the correct ascent and descent techniques while using the Perfect Descent system.
- Climbers are not allowed to climb above the Perfect Descent unit, deviate from their line, or interfere with another climber’s line.
- Climbers must avoid routes that could cause pendulum falls.
- The descent and landing areas must always be safe and free of obstacles. Remove foreign objects and ensure no other climbers are present.
- Climbers may not clip the line into anchors or supports to redirect the descent.
![]()
- Avoid wrapping the rope around arms, legs, or neck.
- Always avoid slack in the line. Slack that causes a free fall could result in serious injury or rope damage. If slack occurs, remain still on the wall and notify staff immediately. If a climber has unknowingly climbed with slack, they must remain in place while staff rescues them using a secondary system (top rope or another Perfect Descent).
![]()
- During speed climbing with the Perfect Descent system, constant supervision is required. The climber must monitor rope retraction throughout the ascent. If slack or retraction issues appear, the climber must be warned and stop climbing immediately. If the unit cannot retract properly, it must be reported and removed for inspection by an authorized service technician.
Climbers may not release the line and allow uncontrolled rewinding into the unit, as this could damage the rope, webbing, or carabiner.
9.0 PROPER DESCENT METHOD
- During descent, the climber must descend in a controlled manner, transferring their weight to the Perfect Descent system. The climber will feel slight tension as descent begins. They must sit back in the harness and descend using their feet against the wall. Always ensure a safe landing surface free of obstacles. For inexperienced climbers, a short climb and descent is recommended to become familiar with the device.
10.0 CARABINER OPERATION
- The carabiners supplied with the Perfect Descent system are two- or three-stage, self-closing and self-locking.
- When attaching a carabiner to the harness, ensure the webbing does not obstruct closure. Always verify that the gate is fully closed and locked by pressing it after connection.
- Protect the carabiner from contact with objects that could cause accidental gate opening.
- Two-stage carabiner: open by twisting the sleeve 90° and then pressing the gate.
Three-stage carabiner: open by first lifting the sleeve until it stops, twisting it 90°, and then pressing the gate.- Always double-check that the gate is fully closed and locked before use.
